Being a manager is a job in itself — training is therefore a must!

Why is executive training essential? Because they have often followed a longer than average course of study before taking over the reins of a company or simply because they feel that training is not necessary for them...

Be that as it may, the observation is clear: in France, business leaders struggle to enroll in training.

13% of SME managers have never completed continuing education.

Indeed, according to a study carried out by the Ariane C & M association in 2008, 13% of SME managers have never completed continuing training.

However, training remains essential regardless of the position one occupies in a company, especially since there are courses specially designed for business managers.

How can such a lack of training be justified?

What are the reasons given by the leaders to justify this lack of training? Because the benefits they can find there are real, especially as the resources for them are easily accessible.

If business leaders are reluctant to train, it is above all a habit rooted in their professional category, a bad habit that is especially common in France, because in Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA, the training of managers is part of their daily life.

First argument put forward by managers: lack of time. This is one of the least questionable arguments, since managing a business effectively involves being alert at all times and at all times, and having to manage a number of time-consuming tasks.

A lack of knowledge of their rights to training

Another argument cited: the lack of knowledge of their rights to training.

It seems that on this level, managers are no better informed than their employees! And if they understand the need to put training plans in place for their staff, it is less natural for them to plan for them.

Sometimes, the argument put forward face to face (rarely in public) indicates a certain lack of leadership: what will my teams say if they see that I am leaving for training?

Finally, the last reason for lack of interest: managers do not always see the point in changing their habits or working methods, especially if the ones they currently use seem to be working.

Adapting to the changes of a changing world

However, manager training can have positive impacts on several aspects: on the way he works but above all, on his company and on the teams he manages.

Indeed, the lack of training for managers generally concerns issues related to human management: how to develop the motivation of your employees, how to learn to delegate without fear, or even how to establish your leadership in the face of tense situations.

Or it concerns future topics that can lead to major changes and mutations: digital transformation, big data, new technologies, new business models...

Update your knowledge

In addition, a business manager, like any other employee, needs to keep his knowledge up to date, while everything is changing so quickly in the business world, whether it is technology, legislation, methodology or even corporate culture.

These could thus be training courses consisting in deepening your management techniques, better developing your management dashboards or even valuing your business or opening up your capital.

Lack of time? Afraid of questioning his leadership? These are no reasons to avoid training.

Let's talk about it together. “You're not born a leader, you become one.”

Training as a manager means offering yourself the tools to better anticipate, decide and support.
