Eric Devaulx, Partners VISCONTI, today welcomes Georges-Bastien Michel, CEO of Reversense, an innovative company specialized in cybersecurity recognized for its expertise in application security, at the VISCONTI Talks microphone.
Self-taught, passionate about cybersecurity, Georges-Bastien trained through experiences in software development and vulnerability analysis. It is recognized throughout the cybersecurity ecosystem for its legitimacy on application security topics.
But who is Georges-Bastien and what are his passions?
Georges-Bastien's father programmed Alpha stations at the end of the 1980s and passed on his passion to him very early on.
At that time we were not talking about cyber but about security problems, which were in fact an misuse that we had identified. Naturally, after high school, Georges-Bastien wanted to continue working and making progress in cybersecurity.
He started by working for his father's company. But his lack of diploma prevented him from being able to work elsewhere.
In 2014, he therefore obtained a Master's degree through VAE, which allowed him to be recruited as a Secure Development Manager at the service of a major French IT services company and then as a reverse designer at Thales.
Besides that, Georges-Bastien is passionate about multiple subjects: cooking, cabinetry, drawing... Anything that calls for creativity.
What were Georges-Bastien's drivers? What made him want to start an entrepreneur?
Georges-Bastien has always sought to build a structure through which he could express himself and give substance to his ideas.
Its engine on a daily basis? Continue to build the Reversense ship.
It is a software that will make it possible to bring his team, his customers and himself to the other side, to make them go beyond the obstacles related to application security and, for Georges-Bastien, to realize themselves.
Every day he wakes up with the idea of allowing people not to do the tasks he had to do in the past.
Reversense is an expert in securing mobile applications. It is a very specific field. What was the journey?
Georges-Bastien started by publishing his personal projects as OpenSource projects, which meant being open to criticism.
Thanks to the kind feedback and the enthusiasm of the community for his tools, he concluded that the best way to move forward and achieve his vision of his profession would be to create a business.
His structure favors the integration of atypical profiles, like him. The aim was to create an environment in which other passionate and competent people who are not necessarily employable (for lack of diploma for example) could come and work.
This system has allowed Reversense to grow with passionate people.
How do you qualify Reversense? A team? A collective? A family?
For Georges-Bastien, Reversense is a ship and they are its crew.
Everyone has a role to play. Their aim is to move forward, to overcome obstacles and to reach the horizon.
They all have expertise and areas of knowledge at different levels, each has a role to play in the plan and everyone knows their role. They work collectively.
He takes part in the same tasks as the other employees. But he chooses the direction. Reversense is therefore a collective adventure.
Were there any key steps in his apprenticeship as a CEO?
His first and only current experience as a CEO is Reversense. He can therefore only talk about his apprenticeship in this profession through the life of Reversense. One of the things he learned: creation leads to chaos.
In 2020, its Opensource tool had more than 100,000 active installations, which allowed it to take the plunge and create a business. He then had to invest all his savings in the company's capital.
The moment he starts this, the Covid epidemic is coming. He then discovered that he was very poorly supported, that he did not have a network of entrepreneurs and that he was finally quite isolated.
As a result, it was not successful in attracting subsidies. Despite this, thanks to their users and beta test customers who continued to use the product afterwards, Reversense managed to become a small structure and grow organically.
It was in 2023, by joining the Cyber Booster incubator, that Georges-Bastien was able to review the entire business model, reorient himself, find new ideas and meet investors.
Between 2023 and 2025, they won several awards, received several grants from the BPI, all this would not have been possible if Georges-Bastien had not decided to change and accept criticism.
Through this experience, what has changed in him between the moment Reversense was created and now?
Its ability to overcome obstacles. Before, he sought to circumvent vulnerabilities, security conditions, with Reversense, which is the materialization of his vision, this adversity is broader. Now, Georges-Bastien wants to overcome all obstacles.
How does Georges-Bastien see Reversense in ten years?
Georges-Bastien still sees himself managing Reversense in ten years because for him there is still a lot to achieve.
His models are companies that were built on technological independence and he wants Reversense to become one of these companies.
What would be Georges-Bastien's advice to be a good leader?
Be open to criticism. You have to let it act on you, transform it and put it back in balance. And finally, engaging your teams in your vision and soliciting your network.
What achievement is Georges-Bastien the most proud of?
Personally, her son.
Professionally, for having taken the plunge to publish his personal projects in Open Source, to have opened up to criticism.
Because he won everything by doing this: he met committed people and the feedback allowed him to gain confidence.
It's a very important part of his career.
