Finding a balance between private and professional life is one of the major concerns of most managers. Few people succeed in doing so harmoniously. However, solutions exist that could improve both their quality of life and their professional performance.
Between work, family, friends, and leisure, managers no longer often know where to turn. And yet, we must manage to give each of these elements their rightful place, at the risk of falling into professional exhaustion. Although the magic recipe does not yet exist for finding the perfect balance, the fact remains that reconciling work and private life is of paramount importance for your wellness and your efficiency.
If you are not organized at work, you will never have enough time to achieve your professional goals. You will always be overworked and never have a minute to devote to yourself.
To be able to free up some time for your personal activities, you need to have a good professional organization:
In reality, having time for your personal life is more about decision than possibility.
We all have a 24 hour day, nothing more and nothing less. But those who manage to devote a little time to their family, friends or to themselves are simply the ones who decided to do it, or who knew how to do it.
First of all, plan your free time. Your personal moments should not be unexpected, but items on your agenda in the same way as your business appointments. Quality moments. It's not so much the length of these moments that matters, but their quality.
It has to be moments of real pleasure, regardless of what you do. It can be doing sports, a bit of reading, a meal with family or friends, or simply nothing, doing nothing at all, total idleness.
Then learn to cut with work. With technology that is embedded in the smallest activities of daily life, you easily become dependent, or even a slave to, your phone or laptop.
You have to have the courage to take the lead and declare a time range (an hour or a day) during which you are simply UNAVAILABLE. In this interval, there is no question of the email or the phone call that must be answered.
Finally, entrust to third parties any personal activity that is a source of stress for you.
Unless DIY or household chores are a way for you to decompress, call on external service providers to repair a water leak, for ironing or for cleaning. You can also delegate your groceries and have them delivered directly to the office or home.
Being accompanied can be very useful in order to find the method that best suits you.
Successfully setting aside a little more time for yourself and for those you care about may require a new modeling of your professional activities, in order to adapt them to your professional and personal priorities.
To do this, the impartial and objective perspective of a coach can be of great use to you.
Together, you can work on an optimal allocation of your time, in order to help you allocate more time to activities with high added value.
Being more effective in this way, you reach your professional goals, and have better inner disposition to spend quality time with your loved ones.
It's entirely possible to be an effective leader without sacrificing family, friends, and hobbies. Achieving balance is a daily task that requires organization and firmness.
Even if it is not possible for you to come home every night at 6 pm or to do sports three times a week, do not feel guilty. Focus more on the quality of these moments spent alone or in the company of your loved ones.
