Certainly, feedback in business is a powerful development tool. You should know that there are several types of feedback.
To give good feedback you always have to start with the positive. But what other tips can you apply to give constructive feedback to your team members?
Positive feedback, development feedback, corrective feedback, we explain everything to you!
The feedback culture is gaining momentum in businesses.
But what exactly is it about? The feedback method aims to make your team members aware of what is positive and what needs to be improved or stopped.
The objective of feedback is to be able to implement actions to boost team performance. While feedback offers real advantages within a company, it can also be counterproductive.
According to the study conducted by Harris Poll, 25% of employees think that negative feedback leads to disengagement.
However, what we are looking for with this method is just the opposite. Indeed, we want to strengthen commitment. Feedback is provided throughout the year, but also during The annual maintenance.
Three types of feedback are possible: positive, developmental, and corrective. We're taking stock.
Positive feedback is used to value the performance of an employee. It is a question of communicating directly to the person concerned (or to the members of a team) the strengths of an action carried out or a behavior, of a particular skill.
With this type of feedback we create a strong social bond and strengthen the trust of employees.
Development feedback, on the other hand, is oriented towards improvement. The manager highlights the good points before coming up with what could be improved.
It is necessary to discuss areas for improvement and make a clear request about what to expect next. The aim is to help the collaborator progress.
Finally, we have corrective feedback whose objective is to ask someone to stop doing an action or having a certain behavior. We explain what is wrong and the consequences, and then we ask the person to stop having that attitude or doing that action.
To give good feedback, posture and soft skills will be your allies. Here are some tips to be effective in your feedback.
Feedback should always rhyme accurately. Get right to the point based on facts. Develop each point you want to raise as clearly as possible.
In order to provide good feedback, it is important to be able to analyze which actions are favorable and which are not. The question to ask yourself is simple.
What benefit will you get from continuing an action or, on the contrary, from stopping it? Clearly, what are the impacts (positive or negative) of each action.
Whether positive or negative, during your feedback it can be interesting or even useful to communicate on the impacts of a behavior.
An example of a situation: an employee who was always late for his work but no longer does it now. At the origin of the problem, you gave this employee corrective feedback.
You explained the consequences to him and asked him to stop this inappropriate behavior. Now he delivers his work on time. You can give him positive feedback!
Clarity is an essential element of feedback in business. It is necessary to make it clear to team members what is expected of them.
Doing better, investing more in one way or another, continuing on the same path without changing anything, are all examples. A clear request allows them to know exactly what they should or should not do anymore.
At the end of each feedback, the action plan should be obvious to everyone. The actions to be taken must be clearly established and communicated. Information on monitoring progress should also be defined and explained.
